Highlights of the sale include:
Bidding opens at $120,000 on Lot 43, "Gloucester Harbor, Ten Pound Island," initialed by Winslow Homer (American 1836-1910). This small, colorful watercolor from a Massachusetts estate was given by Homer to his friend Samuel T. Preston; period photographs show it hanging in Preston’s rooms in New York in 1880.
Lot 32, “The Terrace Samarkand,” 1927, titled, dated and signed by Colin Campbell Cooper (American, 1856-1937) and offered in a period frame, opens for bidding at $120,000. This recently rediscovered oil on canvas from the property of a private collector has an opening bid of $120,000.
Lot 59 “American View, Greenwood Lake,” 1888, is signed and dated by Jasper Francis Cropsey (American 1823-1900). For sale from a private collection, this oil on canvas will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonne being compiled by the Newington-Cropsey Foundation on the Hudson River School Painter. Bidding begins at $120,000.
Also of interest, the sculpture offerings include two rare bronzes Lots 30 and 31 “Lyric Muse” and “Danae” by Paul Manship (American, 1885-1966); and Lot 102 a large bronze “Girl with Goat” by Edward McCartan (American 1879-1947). Minimum bids on these lots are: $9,000; $15,000 and $18,000 respectively.
