Britains Farm Book to Re-Publish on Toy Collector The book was self-published in strictly limited numbers by Brown’s Plastic Warrior imprint. It is now available on ToyCollector.com.
News-Antique.com - Oct 12,2009 - Toy Collector is to serialise Barney Brown’s sold-out book, Britains Herald Plastic Farm Models 1955-1969 in its entirety online.
Having widely collected toys as a child in the 1960s, when he would regularly buy Britians plastic soldiers, cowboys and Indians, farm, zoo and floral garden toys from his local toy shop in Arundel, Sussex, Barney began collecting toys as an adult in 1982 after discovering Veteran & Vintage, a specialist antique model shop in Portslade, Sussex. Having enjoyed the hobby ever since, he decided to put something back by writing a series of collectors’ guides on Britains/Herald plastic civilian models. Further books are planned for 2010 and 2011.
The book was self-published in strictly limited numbers earlier this year by Brown’s Plastic Warrior imprint and is a definitive catalogue of the farm toys produced by Britains and Herald during the period it covers. Only a very limited second printing is currently planned, but the book will be re-published in the form of blog posts on the site. It will also form the basis for the relevant entries in ToyPedia, the site’s wiki-based online encyclopedia of collectable toys and models.
The book’s re-publication online is in accordance with Toy Collector’s aim to become the internet’s main repository of collectable toy and model information, and the “first stop” for collectors looking for information online.
Barney said, “As a free-to-use website, Toy Collector’s publishing costs are nil to the author, and it is able to feature exhaustive information on niche interests that are either not extensive enough to fill a book or would not have a wide enough audience to justify the costs involved in publishing one.
Toy Collector’s Andrew Adamides adds, “Barney’s research work on Herald Farm Models is excellent and we are ecstatic to host it for the benefit of collectors world-wide.
Further book serialisations and the publishing of sample chapters of new works are also planned. The introduction of Britains & Herald Plastic Farm Models is already live with the first few chapters;. New chapters will come out every week on Wednesday.
