Sotheby’s Fall 2009 Wine Sales
Sotheby’s London will offer wines direct from the cellar of Baron Frère -- the noted Château owner, wine connoisseur and philanthropist - on Wednesday 23 September 2009. The sale will present 454 lots of Bordeaux and Champagne vintages from 1985-2005 with a low estimate of £795,690. Baron Frère is donating all proceeds of the sale to the Belgian charity, the Charles-Albert Frère Foundation, which he set up in 2000.
Sotheby’s fall season will continue with two superb single-owner sales to be offered in Hong Kong on October 3 and 4, kicking off the company’s fall series of sales in Asia. Building upon the success of the spring 2009 two-part single-owner sale of The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector, which took place in New York and Hong Kong, Sotheby’s will offer a third selection from The Classic Cellar from a Great American Collector on October 3 as well as An Exceptional Cellar from a Private American Collector on October 4. On November 21, Sotheby’s New York will sell a collection of wines direct from the legendary Spanish winemaker Bodegas Vega Sicilia, owned by the Alvarez family. The sale will comprise 214 lots estimated at
more than $350,000, with highlights including 436 bottles of the vineyard’s signature wine Vega Sicilia Único from 1921 to 1999 and five vertical selections, including a vertical collection of 41 bottles from 19211999, all signed by the winery’s general director Pablo Alvarez (est. $15/25,000). Sotheby’s sale will include not only wines from Bodegas Vega Sicilia, but also all of the wines from Grupo Vega Sicilia, which is led by Pablo Alvarez and includes Bodegas Alión, Bodegas Pintia, both in Spain, and Tokaj Oremus in Hungary.
