She’ll give up the army patches and the memories of her Dad’s; the old fire hat from when he wore it, the tools and trunks, metal lockers and primitive painted cupboards of her grandparents from long ago.
This giant of a man will give her new memories when they move to his new congregation to care for other families deep in Iowa. They’ll put their own wants and needs in the backseat while they care for families that may not survive without their assistance and love, their faith in God and belief of better days. For now, she’ll say goodbye, she will remember these items and the days they were used in her heart, for now, that will be enough.
