While we will offer larger discounts towards the end of the day, in all likelihood we will not be offering half off or any free items from this house and very little free from the garage. The family has decided that the items that do not sell during the sale period, will be placed on consignment at a local store, so be sure to buy early should you want to own any of these fantastic historical family heirlooms. Note that the Duncan Phyfe serpentine cabinet will be kept by the family and will not be sold, although all contents inside the cabinet will still be for sale. We will be priced fairly as per usual. This will be our last sale until September 10th due to our planned vacation with my darling Mother this coming two weeks.
Jim Van Nort was 91 years young when he left this world 8 years ago this coming September 13th. He was best-known back then for being the heart of the famous Jim-Denny’s diner at 816 12th Street, the little greasy burger joint that we all knew and loved and some of us still frequent. Jim Van Nort and his wife Helen Zuhars, who died in 1990, ran the place in its heyday when politicians frequented the joint, deals were sealed by handshakes between high ranking officials sitting on one of 10 chrome stools crammed between the pantry and the front counter. In front of the fryer, friends were endured, back when kids had their first malt with their Granddaddy and girls went for a burger on their way to the dance with their new beau. Those were the days when work ethics made a man’s head hold high and everyone wanted to be known for what they stood by as well as what they stood for.
While we are not selling any advertising or Jim Denny’s restaurant items at all, mainly because the two grandson’s wanted to keep them for their own future families. We will be emptying the family home of the overflow of memories held over from years and generations of this man’s family, as well as his wife’s. The client we are helping is the daughter of Van Nort and she has been a total joy to meet and work along side of.
As the available area is small and the items very fragile, we will be allowing only 20 people in at a time to start with until we know where that leaves us space wise. Should you care to shop in the garage for the men’s items, we will open the garage at the same time as the house located at 478 Pico Way Sacramento CA 95819 and you can choose at that time if you’d like to shop out there instead of waiting in line.
