News-Antique.com - Aug 10,2009 - The Premiere Washington DC Antiques Art & Jewelry Show is excited to host a free lecture and book signing of Chairs (Octopus, October 2009 publication date), the latest book by international antiques expert Judith Miller, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at The Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
Judith’s book celebrates her passion for chairs by examining more than 100 of her favorite chairs, reflecting upon their iconic status, designers, historical facts, overall style, design details and ergonomic properties. The chairs have been specially photographed on location and are featured in chronological order, ranging from early antiques such as the 1680 Windsor Chair and the 1740 Louis XV Chaise Lounge, to modern day collectibles such as Marc Newson’s 1988 “Embryo” and Tom Dixon’s 2007 “Wingback.” Chairs represents nearly 400 years of great seating celebrated for its style, status, craft and art.
“The Washington DC Antiques Arts & Jewelry Show is thrilled to partner with Judith Miller for this lecture and book signing,” says Andrea Canady, fair director of the show. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for the public and dealers to learn from an industry expert about the history of chairs, while viewing and purchasing some of the finest antiques in the world.”
The first annual Washington DC Antiques Arts & Jewelry Show will exhibit rare and unusual historical art collections and antiques from around the world; original paintings and works of art spanning more than three centuries; fine American and European silver; highly sought 19th and 20th century art glass such as Tiffany, Lalique, Galle and many others.
Show hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009. Tickets can be purchased online at www.washingtondcantiquesartandjewelryshow.com for a one-time admission of $15 valid for all four days of the show. A Preview Party benefitting the Corcoran Gallery of Art will be held the evening of Wednesday, October 14 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
