July 27, 2009 – Celebrity psychic Jeane Dixon’s legendary crystal ball sold for $11,950 yesterday at Sloans & Kenyon’s auction of property from her estate. In addition to Dixon’s crystal ball, the auction included antique furniture, decorative arts and silver, paintings and sculpture, rugs, vintage clothing, as well as documents, memorabilia and religious artifacts from the estate of Jeane Dixon (1904-1997), who was the reigning astrologer and psychic of the 20th century, best known for predicting John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
DIXON ESTATE AUCTION TOTAL DOUBLES EXPECTATIONS
377 of the 378 lots in the catalogue session sold for $312,349.10, doubling the low end of the pre-auction estimate of $154,455-231,205. All 159 lots sold in the non-catalogue session grossed $8,574.13. The auction’s top lot was a Continental Gilt Brass-Mounted Bas Relief Cast Composition Wishing Well, estimated at $800-1200, that sold for $22,107.50; an ornate 18th Century Italian Baroque Carved Gilt-wood Palace Mirror, estimated at $2,000-4000, attracted bidders from Europe and Italy, and sold to a European bidder in the audience for $14,340. The auction’s surprise lot was a Charles X Ebony Inlaid Satinwood barrel-back Armchair with massively carved lion’s head hand-holds, estimated at $500-700, which sold for $11,053.75 and attracted seven phone bidders,
