News-Antique.com - Jun 17,2009 - The blog is intended to serve as the internet’s hub of Dinky news, entertainment and information and will feature exclusively-Dinky content. It is being run by a number of dedicated Dinky enthusiasts and experts, but any member of the Toy Collector community can contribute relevant items. Posts will include profiles of Dinky’s model ranges, model types and individual models as well as restoration tips, Dinky news, values and sale price information.
So far, the blog has profiled models like the 189 Triumph Herald and 191 Dodge Royal Sedan, showcased unusual Dinky items like a complete set of 1950’s dealer price tags and reported on the recent sale of the unique Dinky Omnisport Austin Van model by Wallis & Wallis. Upcoming posts include pieces on the ten most valuable Dinky Toys, the Dinky 25 Series and early Military Dinky models.
Dinky has proved to be one of the most enduring brand names in toy history and still commands a fanatical collector following some 30 years after the Binns Road Dinky factory closed its doors. Besides giving many adult collectors the chance to re-live their childhoods or own models that were out of their reach as children, the Dinky market has also proven to be a more or less recession-proof investment. As with many collectable toys, values of mint and boxed models have held firm of late and in some cases have even risen. The aforementioned Omnisport van sold for £6,400.
