DH March 09 Aboriginal Art Auction Pt. 1 All eyes were on Deutscher and Hackett on the 25th of March with the Melbourne based art auction house conducting their very first dedicated Aboriginal art sale
do some more digging to see if I can unearth any more information.
Anyway, after that slight deviation I will get back to the analysis of the auction. In theory, a gap in the market combined with an affordable catalogue of quality works of art should have been a recipe for success but unfortunately this was just not the case. A hammer total of $1,158,200 with 57% sold by value and 55% sold by number is definitely not anywhere near the result that Deutscher and Hackett were hoping for. In fact, the $1,158,200 hammer total was less than half the $2,400,000 mid estimate total that Deutscher and Hackett set for the auction.
