News-Antique.com - Apr 19,2009 - Recently acquired is a very rare Ingersoll Mickey Mouse pocket watch from 1933. This is Disney's very first mechanical wind pocket watch made during the time that the Mickey Mouse cartoon, introduced in 1928, was becoming popular in this country. The original wristwatch version of this 1933 watch sold recently at auction for over six thousand dollars!
This particular watch is in good outer condition but needs the minute hand and second hand circle. The face shows some age discoloration and the case has a small dent on the back rim. The crystal and bezel (not shown) has been replaced since the picture was taken. It needs a cleaning and the missing parts to function as a time piece. An unusual feature of this particular watch is that pushing down on the crown moves the hand instead of pulling it out. Usually the opposite is true. I recently found a source for restoration of these rare Ingersoll watches with access to all original parts. For about $200 it could be made to look just like it was in 1933!
This extremely rare watch measures approximately 2 by 2 1/2 inches and is marked 'Mickey Mouse Ingersoll' on the face at the 3:00 o'clock marker, 'Ingersoll Mickey Mouse' on the back of the case with an etched picture of Mickey, and 'Made in USA' and model number 86281173 on the movement. This is a beautiful extremely rare and unique treasure!
