News-Antique.com - Feb 22,2009 - FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Auctions are increasingly becoming an important resource for raising cash in a soft economy, and CNN has taken notice of this fact. They sent a production crew to Quinn's Auction Galleries in Greater Washington, D.C., to interview partner Matthew Quinn and one of his consignors, Chuck Burch, for a 2-minute news feature that will air on CNN between 10 and 11PM on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009. The video clip can also be viewed online at the CNN.com Web site.
Quinn said Mr. Burch lost his job due to the economic downturn and had to think of creative ways to pay his bills. "He used to sell rockets made for commercial purposes," said Quinn. "When he was let go from his job, he thought of the items from his mother's estate that were not being used and decided to bring them to us to auction."
Quinn said that artwork and approximately $10,000 worth of coins were among the estate goods consigned by Burch. A watercolor, which was auctioned in a recent Quinn's weekly sale, was captured on tape as it sold, and will be part of the CNN coverage. The coins will be offered in an upcoming weekly Wednesday sale.
"It obviously is very gratifying to Quinn's to know that we are able to provide a service to our community that is actually having a tangible, positive effect on people's finances," said Quinn.
