Acoma Olla Sells for $17,000 at Cordier Antiques' Two Day Fall Auction Cordier Antiques' Two Day Fall Antique & Fine Art Auction was held November 8 and 9 in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania with good results, led by the sales' top lot, a large Acoma olla that sold for $17,000.
bidders prevailed on several key lots including an organ grinder and bear mechanical bank with hairline crack at $2,200 and a Lehmann Echo Cyclist tin windup at $1,300 while the Internet won a tin lithographed clockwork steamship at $550 and a German tinplate windup double decker bus at $375.
The day finished up with fifty-nine catalogued lots of dolls plus an additional 308 uncataloged doll lots sold from a list to the room only. The majority of the dolls were from the collection of the late Edith DeAngelo, known as “The Doll Lady” in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. A passionate collector of dolls throughout her life, several of the dolls in her collection were made by or came from the personal collection of Marysia “Mollye” Goldman, founder of the International Doll Company and a personal friend of Mrs. DeAngelo. The dolls offered included a wide range of types and styles including bisque, vinyl, cloth and wax. Some highlights among the cataloged portion included an Ideal Patty Playpal in the original box at $325, an Ideal Peter Playpal at $375, a circa 1920’s Norah Wellings felt doll at $400 and a 26” German bisque head child doll at $375. The best was saved for last as the final cataloged lot opened – a cased pair of Victorian wax dolls with glass eyes and period costumes housed in a wallpaper-lined shadow box. While the hammer price was below estimate, the dolls realized a respectable $600 from a collector in the room.
