The humiliating failure to even qualify for this summer’s Euro 2008 the first major tournament England has missed out on since the 1994 World Cup left millions of fans devastated. Steve McClaren’s multi-million pound players needed just a point from their last group game against Croatia to secure their place in Austria and Switzerland. But a shameful 3-2 defeat led to McClaren’s sacking and football fans across the country facing an England-free tournament. And the flop team which included Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Frank Lampard beat disgraced Babyshambles front man Pete Doherty to take the biggest waste of space top spot. Third in the poll, of 3,000 Brits is Prime Minister Gordon Brown whose Government many blame for the current credit crunch crisis, rising fuel and food prices and falling house market. A spokesman for storage product specialists www.BiGDUG.co.uk, who carried out the poll, said "I think the whole nation was left disappointed and felt let down when England failed to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals. This is reflected in the survey findings." "We aren't surprised by Gordon Brown's high entry either. British citizens have lost trust in his government and his constant dithering coupled with policy u-turns have made his tenure at the top an uncomfortable experience". Toilet roll covers were voted into fourth place while former Atomic Kitten singer Kerry Katona, who was recently declared bankrupt, is at five. The Eurovision Song Contest, which usually sees the UK languishing near the bottom of the table, came sixth, followed by glamour girl Jodie Marsh. Mayor of London Boris Johnson came eighth, just weeks after he was criticised at the Olympic handover in Beijing for accepting the flag with one hand, having his hands in his pockets and not buttoning up his jacket. Heiress Paris Hilton is at number nine while the salads sold by fast food chain McDonalds completed the top ten. Other celebrities to feature in the poll, include 19-year-old Peaches Geldolf, at number 15, who shocked the nation by marrying singer Max Drummey, just weeks after meeting him. Pop Star flops The Cheeky Girls are at number 17 while GMTV Host Fiona Phillips, who has just announced she is quitting her job on the sofa, is at number 30.
