News-Antique.com - Oct 25,2008 - things-and-other-stuff.com has recently begun featuring Video ID Guides to accompany the standard Photo ID Guides on it's movie card and collectibles site. The third video in the series focuses on Movie Fan Photos from the 1920's and 30's.
The fan photo video was also published in the October 24 edition of Examiner.com in the Auctions and Antiques section. AuctionWally writes of things-and-other-stuff.com and site owner Cliff Aliperti:
"...one of the best sites on vintage ephemera that I've ever seen. At Thingsandotherstuff.com [sic], you'll find excellent offerings of vintage fan photos, movie cards, magazines and much more.
Want to know more about this field of collecting before you buy? No problem, Cliff in not stingy with his knowledge. See his video..."
The Movie Stars Fan Photo video runs just over 9 minutes, opening with a brief look at movie publicity photos and wire photos before concentrating on the 5x7 Fan Photos. Aliperti stresses these as collectibles which were accesible to collectors of the period, in contrast to the other types of photos which were generally available only to those working in the film business somewhere along the line between the studios, theatres and press. On the contrary fan photos are often found with pin holes through them or other damage from young fans (collectors) of the past.
