News-Antique.com - Jul 29,2008 - The excitement of Leonard Auction’s recent sale peaked as the 1918 $500 Large Federal Reserve Note came to the block on July 19, 2008. Bidding opened on at $2000 and rapidly increased among heavy competition from floor and phone bidders. Bidding ended with a round of applause as a New Jersey collector on the phone, won the note with a final bid of $16,100 including 15% buyer’s premium.
“We were excited to offer this note a mere two months after exciting currency collectors with the $1000 Gold Certificate in May” said John Leonard, President of Leonard Auction. That note sold for $15,400 and securely established Leonard Auction as the premiere Coin & Currency auction house in Chicago.
This auction also marked the second Coin & Currency sale held by Leonard Auction where consigners paid no commission for any single coin or piece of currency selling for $250 or more. John Leonard added that “our industry first 0% commission for coins & currency is truly exciting and is leading to many wonderful pieces coming to market.” The next opportunity to take advantage of the 0% commission on coins & currency will be at Leonard Auction’s September 20, 2008 sale. Consignments are due by September 4, 2008.
Leonard Auction's next scheduled sale will occur on Saturday, August 16, 2008. The sale will feature a large collection of Mid-Century Modern furniture by Dunbar in addition to a fine selection of 19th and 20th century antiques and collectibles. A complete color catalog of the items to be offered at future sales is available at www.leonardauction.com.
