News-Antique.com - Jul 24,2008 - BALTIMORE – Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards (“GEM”) has been named the winner of Nickelodeon’s 2008 ParentsConnect.com Parents’ Picks Award in the category of Baltimore’s Best Teen Museum. Parents from all over the United States voted for favorite attractions and services in their respective cities in a Nickelodeon Television online poll that ran from May 19 to June 30, 2008. Participants in the Greater Baltimore area cast thousands of votes, leading to the winning result for GEM.
A 17,000-square-foot museum located in the historic original Camden Train Station, GEM presents a chronological history of comic characters and their impact on pop culture and youth-oriented marketing over the last 200 years. Museum visitors can walk through a timeline of antique and collectible toys, advertising, movie posters, comic books and many other pop-culture items showcasing favorite comic characters and celebrities like Superman, Supergirl, Batman, Howdy Doody, Betty Boop, Little Richard, Elvis and many others.
A scavenger hunt and interactives throughout the museum provide additional entertainment for youngsters, and special exhibits focusing on particular characters or pop categories are mounted throughout the year.
Admission to GEM is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $7 for students 5-18. Children 4 and under are admitted free. All admissions are half price on Tuesdays. The museum is located at 301 W. Camden St., Baltimore, MD 21201. Hours are: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. year round. The museum is closed on Mondays except for holiday Mondays.
