As antique dealers over the past 28 years & TIAS Antique Dealers for the last 8 years we’ve seen the antique business rise & fall with the economy. As
most of us are finding ourselves with far fewer discretionary money, NOW is the perfect time to purchase antiques again!
Why? There are a few reasons. First by buying antiques you will receive an item that is by far a better quality item for less than purchasing a similar “new” or “Made in China” item.
The second big reason to purchase antiques is to go GREEN! By going GREEN instead of buying a new particle board television armoire that in 4 years will be of little or no value you purchase an old one! Go Green and purchase a used armoire of any age thus preventing another piece of furniture from heading to the dump! If that used armoire has been around for 25 years already the chances are it will be around in yet another 25!
Third antique dealers are one of the first line businesses that people used to say “oh I don’t need that” and just “window shop”. But in todays market a wise shopper puts that knowledge to work by “offering the dealer a lower price” in the hopes the dealer will accept. The fine art of negotiation likely ensues & you both win! Most dealers will tell you that despite the cost of oil, antique prices are NOT rising! If anything most dealers have lowered their prices.

I am captivated by Kimora Lee’s business sense so I was very excited seeing the “Fabulous” Kimora going green.” We hope she will take it a step farther and incorporate antiques into the decor of her shops!
But you don’t have to be a design star to be “fabulous”! Start by thinking re-use, re-cycle, think green! You will discover by thinking out of the box you will create a one of a kind home, a signature that is all you! In this & future articles I will share some of those ideas with you. Many I have used in creating our home to be a comfortable & warm space that people love to linger in.
Our home is a 70s rancher so we have used old architectural pieces though-out our home to create a nostalgia of times gone by. Old stained glass windows hang in front of windows that dazzles in the morning light! Old vertical panel windows have been refinished by my hubby who then placed
