A mint condition Beatles 1st state Butcher Cover ($8,000-$12,000), records, autographs, programs, tickets and memorabilia are all part of the Pop Culture auction April 26 online and in Oceanside NY.
The Beatles “Yesterday and Today” record album released in 1965 originally was covered with the scene of the four mop tops dressed in Butcher smocks with hunks of meat and baby doll parts in a gruesome image. It was removed from the stores almost immediately, and the records were returned to Capital Records to have the safe cover image of the Beatles sitting around an old Trunk. A 1st state cover is one that has the original cover image showing. A second state is an LP with the Trunk cover pasted over the Butcher cover. A third state is an LP with the Trunk cover “peeled” off from on top of the Butcher cover. A fourth state cover has no Butcher under the Trunk cover and was released for many years.
The mint condition first state “Yesterday and Today” Album in the auction has no visible flaws, no splits in the spine and with a near mint record album with original inner sleeve.
Other Beatles items are listed below, including a collection of Beatles Concert Tickets, ticket stubs and concert programs from US tours in 1964, 1965 and 1966. There are 45 rpm picture sleeves, Fan club releases Christmas records, a Beatles Handbag from 1964, and two very rare Beatles LP Acetates used to listen to the album prior to pressing including one for an LP never released “Best of The Beatles” featuring sessions recorded with original drummer Pete Best.
The autographs include a picture signed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, a note written to a brave 9 year old who approached John in a NY airport and asked for an autograph, posters signed by Ringo and Paul, along with autographs from peer Eric Clapton and his band The Cream on numerous items.
Other celebrity autographs include a collection acquired in person at the 2004 and 2005 Golden Globe awards with photos of many of the stars signing the books including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Scarlet Johanson, Neve Campbell, Jessica Beals, Topher Grace, Eva Mendez, Peter Jackson, Micehlle Tractenberg, Evan Rachel Wood, James Belushi, Kelly Osbourne, Bill Macy, Dennis Leary, Nancy O'Dell, Zach Braff, Leelee Sobieski, Kerri Russell, Felecity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Minnie Driver, Marcia Cross, Don Cheadle, Tara Reid, Chad Lowe, Warren Beatty, Annette Benning, Megan Mullaly, Will Ferrell, Paula Abdul, Jerry O'Connell, Rebecca Romain, Luke Wilson, Jamie Foxx, Shannon Doherty, Nicholette Sheridan, Danny Bonaduce, Sally Struthers, Neil Patrick Harris, Jennifer Love Hewitt and lots more which will be sold as a single lot.
