News-Antique.com - Apr 01,2008 - NEW YORK, NY – April 1, 2008 – iGavel.com, the online fine art and antiques auction house, is hosting a month of jewelry auctions on its site from March 28th through April 16th. iGavel Associate, Litchfield County Auctions kicked off its Jewelry sale on iGavel alongside its Modern Art and Design Auction last week. iGavel will also hold its own Jewelry Sale from March 31st to April 16th.
The Litchfield Jewelry Auction on iGavel features over 200 pieces of fine, designer and vintage jewelry, with a selection from the estate of opera diva Anna Moffo Sarnoff. One of the auction's premiere pieces is a mid 20th century platinum and diamond bracelet set with 287 diamonds, and estimated at $8000-12,000. Also up for bid are several gold and diamond bracelets, including a yellow gold princess diamond bracelet, 20th C., with 55 diamonds, estimated at $5000-7000, and a white gold, sapphire & princess diamond bracelet, 20th C. The piece features a total of 65 square sapphires and 3 diamonds.
Designer and vintage Jewelry collectors won't be disappointed either. The auction includes a selection of fun items from Mrs. Sarnoff's Estate, including 11 sterling silver jewelry items, and a mid 20th century watch made for Vacherin & Constantin. Another notable item in the sale is a 14K gold cased transistor AM/FM Radio, C. 1970, monogrammed on front 'RWS RCA', inscribed on reverse 'RWS-DT & AR', with gold wrist chain, retailed by Marvin Hine & Co., Beverly Hills, California. RWS, obviously, is for media mogul Robert Sarnoff, late husband of Anna Moffo and head of RCA.
Also available for bid on iGavel is a Verdura 14K gold inlaid sterling silver box, a gift by the late American composer and songwriter Cole Porter to his wife Linda Porter around 1928. The Early 20th Century box, retailed by Flato Jewelers ('Jewelers to the stars'), has a 14K gold inlay monogram on its lid labeled 'CP'. The story associated with the Cole Porter box is that each time a new Porter production opened, Cole gave a presentation box to Linda. Some of Porter's most famous music was written for the musical 'Anything Goes.' This item was purchased from the 'Cole Porter Collection of Presentation Cigarette Cases and Boxes' by the singer Hubbell Pierce on May 17th, 1967.
Below are several highlights from the live auction on iGavel.com from March 26th through April 9th. Starting bids on iGavel are the reserve amount and most lots are available for first-hand inspection.
