Hugo Weihe, International Director, International Specialist Head of Indian and Southeast Asian Art, comments, Todays carefully selected sale was well received by an enthusiastic audience with bidders in the room, on the phone and online, vying for the best works. We are gratified that new records were realized today, including a new world auction record for any contemporary Indian painting, which was set by MF Husain. Works by the senior progressive artists performed well, led by a record for Ram Kumars exceptional figurative work. We look forward to the Asian Contemporary sales in Hong Kong at the end of May.
