News-Antique.com - Feb 11,2008 - Located in the charming New England Village of Plantsville, Connecticut is The Plantsville General Store Antique Center a popular country style department store back in the 1940s that was transformed into a 5000 square foot multi-dealer antique emporium by owners Elaine and David Maloney. This eclectic group shop hosts dealers who carry jewelry, kitchen-wares, pottery, china, glassware, linens, vintage clothing, sewing notions, vanity accessories, dolls, collectible paper, advertising, country, nostalgia, books, furniture and more.
In the 1980s, customers could still find rows and rows of floor to ceiling boxes overflowing with such odds and ends as pot covers, flatware, door knobs, keys etc. Other than the original building structure still in place, customers who visit The Plantsville General Store Antique Center today will find a vastly different place from the crowded aisles of hardware and house-wares left over from earlier times.
Visitors will find beautifully displayed antiques and collectibles as well as a friendly, informative and helpful staff. Just like the good ole days, Elaine Maloney still believes in country hospitality and offers her customers complimentary coffee, hot cider or iced tea (depending on the season ) along with the Center’s signature butter cookies .
While the piles of old gadgets and dusty pots and pans are long gone, The Plantsville General Store Antique Center is still is one of the best places to find just what you might be looking for from replacement glass lamp shades to a cord for your old radio. Elaine and David keep lots of goodies neatly tucked away in drawers and cabinets ....so don’t be afraid to ask them if they have that special something you are after.
