News-Antique.com - Feb 06,2008 - Steve O'Brien Jr. Fine Arts, sales agent of the most famous duck and goose decoys in the world will be displaying pieces by A. Elmer Crowell and other noted carvers at The Southeast Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina, Feb 15-17.
O'Brien, who brokered the world-record sale of duck and goose decoys for $1.1 million each said, "We're going to be in Charleston for the week of Feb 11-17, and look forward to showing off our decoys and helping new collectors learn more about this wonderful form of American folk art. We'll have a tremendous collection of Crowell decoys and carvings and the sporting life paintings of John Swann on display at the Wildlife Exposition. It will be well worth a visit."
O'Brien set the decoy world on its head in September with the completion of the largest private decoy sale ever--31 decoys for $7.5 million. The sale included two decoys by legendary carver A. Elmer Crowell of East Harwich, Massachusetts--a sleeping Canada goose and a preening pintail drake--for $1.1 million each.
O'Brien's sister company, Copley Fine Art Auctions, which set the sporting art world on fire with world-record auction prices in 2007 for decoys and sporting art paintings, will also be at the Souteast Wildllife Exposition to give free appraisals and accept consignments for their next auction, July 23 and 24, 2008, in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
