American Indian Art Rarities to be Auctioned by Heritage On November 10th, Heritage Auction Galleries will present their latest auction of American Indian Art, featuring fine examples of pottery, baskets, textiles, beadwork, and more.
News-Antique.com - Nov 03,2007 - DALLAS, TX: On November 10th, at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas, Heritage Auction Galleries will present their latest auction of American Indian Art, featuring fine examples of pottery, baskets, textiles, beadwork, and more.
Approximately 400 lots will be up for bid, including artworks from the Putt Thompson, William Headley, William Esser and the City of Harrisburg
collections. "This is a very exciting auction," said Delia E.Sullivan, Senior Specialist of American Indian Art at Heritage, "with many fine examples of exceptional artworks from pre-historic times through contemporary times." "Collectors of Plains Indian artifacts will be tempted by pictorial beadwork, boldly painted parfleche cases and fine
wood and horn sculpture. The auction includes moccasins, pipes, pouches, and tobacco bags of every stripe," Sullivan said.
Highlights include a Northern Cheyenne beaded hide baby carrier, accompanied by a period photograph of this object in the arms of a small girl, and eight Arapaho
ledger drawings, some depicting battles with Custer's 7th Cavalry.
"We're also offering several wonderful pieces of Crow horse gear," said Sullivan, "including two woman's beaded hide parade saddles, a forehead ornament, a headstall, and a crupper."
"The many beautiful items have very reasonable estimates, and I expect this will make for some very spirited bidding. To boot, the auction is nestled between our offerings
of Western Memorabilia and Western Photography, so I expect lots of cross-over bidding," said Sullivan. "There's so much on offer in this important auction," Sullivan said, "and the few pieces mentioned here barely scratch the surface.
