Mastro Auctions’ October Classic Collector Sale Surpasses $2.1 Million Hobby favorite keeps collectors coming back for more high quality Sports and Americana items

On October 25, the leading Sports and Americana auction house closed its final Classic Collector event of 2007. The results indicate there is no let up of excitement surrounding these much anticipated sales that are packed with diversity.
“Another two million dollar plus Classic Collector event puts an exclamation point on the success of these great hobby sales,” said Doug Allen, president of Mastro Auctions. “We look forward to another series of these events in 2008 as they continue to grow and attract more collectors and add favorably to the overall scope and depth of the collecting industry.”
The October Mastro Auctions Classic Collector event, conducted entirely over the internet, included over 1,700 lots of Sports and Americana collectibles. Bidding concluded on October 25. Highlights include:

• A 1952 Topps near set (398/407) sold for $21,695.
• A 1914 Cracker Jack #88 Christy Mathewson - SGC 40 VG 3 sold for $19,678.
• A 1911/12 C55 Hockey players complete set (45) went for $16,187.
• A 2005 Chicago White Sox World Champions team signed balls (72 balls, each with 26 sigs.) - a complete case of six dozen official W.S. balls realized a final price of $15,415.
• A 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams - PSA EX-MT 6 went for $13,981.
• A 1954 Wilson Franks PSA-graded complete set (20) sold for $13,315.
• A 1952 Topps near set (398/407) went for $12,680.
• A 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle rookie card - PSA VG-EX 4 sold for $12,680.
• A 1960s-1970s NFL Championship game tickets collection (3) including Super Bowl V commanded $12,076.
• A 1952 Bowman complete set (252) including two SGC 96 MINT 9 examples sold for $9,072.
• A 1911-1912 T201 and T202 SGC-graded collection (65) including many HOFers went for $9,072.

• A circa 1953 Elizabeth Orton Jones original artwork from "The Velveteen Rabbit" went for $4,229.

• A J.D. Salinger 1982 signed letter with "legal" content sold for $3,493.
• A collection of assorted U.S. gold coins (13) went for $3,175.
