The Orientalist section delivered top prices and several new world auctions records. Particularly noteworthy was the one for von Ferraris which shattered the previous record of $374,400 set at Christie’s last year. Christie's position as market leader in this very much 'en vogue' field was comfortably confirmed. The 19th Century European paintings category witnessed strong results for the French academic painters in particular. Bidding was truly international throughout the sale and 10 new world auction records were realized.
