News-Antique.com - Oct 23,2007 - Today marked the kick-off of Christie's unique three-city series of sales of Important Furniture and Works of Art from Steinitz, the renowned Parisian antiques gallery. Le Gout Steinitz I totaled $5,501,713 and was 77% sold by lot, 70% sold by value. The top lot of the sale was a pair of French giltwood console tables which realized $409,000.
The afternoon sale of Important European Furniture, Works of Art, Ceramics & Carpets totaled $4,141,288 and was 74% sold by lot, 69% sold by value. The sale was led by a magnificent pair of Russian ivory vases which more than doubled its high estimate to achieve $421,000.
This brings to a close the Fall season of European Furniture sales at Christie’s New York, which totaled an impressive $19.98 million.
