For their 40th edition the Kovels introduce the next generation of the antiques price guide The newly released 40th anniversary edition of the Kovels' Antiques and Collectible Price Guide introduces the public to an exciting new design that is filled with new features.
News-Antique.com - Oct 13,2007 - Cleveland Ohio - October 13, 2007 - For the past 39 years the "Kovels' Antiques & Collectibles Price List" has been the benchmark--all other antiques and collectibles price guides are measured against it. For their 40th anniversary edition the Kovels have raised the bar for what collectors should expect in the next generation of antiques & collectibles price guides. The 2008 edition is larger with photos on every page and five times the photos of previous editions and over 2,500 color images. Also included are tips on care, repair, record prices paid and identification tips for antiques and collectibles. The most important feature of the 40th anniversary edition are the 42,000 brand new prices fresh from the antiques & collectibles marketplace, including prices from flea markets, shops, shows, the Internet and auctions. There are no estimates, just actual asking prices from the open market. The 2008 edition also lists hundreds of sidebars that are filled with interesting facts and fascinating details about many of the items listed in this year's guide.
Probably the single most visible change in the 40th edition is the new navigation system. To help readers track down information more quickly, the 2008 edition is vibrantly color coded. The new Kovels' guide is separated alphabetically by colored tabs, making it faster and easier for users to find what they are looking for. The new rainbow-edged cover will quickly help everyone to realize that this is an entirely new and completely different price book. The 40th "Kovels' Antiques & Collectible Price List" is a milestone in the evolution of price guides. The new look and features have been made possible because of recent innovations in computers, photography and printing technology. It just took the Kovels to bring it all together.
"When you combine our 40 years of experience publishing antiques and collectibles price guides and the latest technological innovations, you get to see the next generation of the antiques and collectibles price guide," said Terry Kovel. "This has been a tremendously exciting project for us. This new book is by far the most exciting and innovative price guide we have ever produced."
The new Kovels price guide is not yet available in stores, but they have set aside some of the first books delivered from their printer for their more avid readers. They are offering these early copies for sale on-line along with a special bonus offer. It's a free booklet called "Fakes, Fantasies & Reproductions No. 9, a pocket-size, 16-page leaflet explaining how to recognize some 1970s and 80s reproductions--from fake signatures on glass to repro Tootsietoys. Older reproductions are more likely to fool you, which makes this pamphlet an invaluable tool.
