Comment: “We are absolutely thrilled with the record price for the Fisher-Fox Piecrust Tea Table. Its extraordinary survival in its original condition elevated this masterpiece to an icon of American Colonial furniture. Its discovery in the family of the original owner was as thrilling as the record itself. The Penn armchair, another discovery, also set a record for its form,” said John Hays, Deputy Chairman, Christie’s Americas.
Margot Rosenberg, Head of Christie’s American Furniture, Folk Art & Decorative Arts, continued: “We are delighted to have achieved such great prices for the American Folk Art from the Atwater Kent Museum of Philadelphia. Their trade figures were rare and dynamic and the market responded accordingly with prices far exceeding estimates. The collection totaled over $1.8 million and will benefit the direct care of the museum’s famed collection.”
