Ten documents, very fine, from 1794 to 1839 about transactions concerning slaves. One, ALS, 1839 tells of transporting fourteen slaves from Georgia to Maryland, calculating the tax due on this activity. A very good group, which may well exceed the estimate.
653 SLAVERY: CANNON’S FERRY [2] ($85-Up)
Important ALS “TJBC Wright,”, 2 pp, 4to, Cannons Ferry, [DE], 4/10/1827. He writes to Joseph Watson, mayor of Philadelphia, asking for his help apprehending members of the Johnson family, whom he suspects of “kidnping [sic] our boy.” The Johnsons and their colleague, Patty Cannon, were notorious for kdinapping escaped--and sometimes freed--slaves from Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, and re-selling them in Georgia. Dampstains and chipping at edges, seal hole, overall good. With an unrelated letter from 1849.

Pair of legal folio DS, one partly printed, 3-1/2pp, New Orleans, Dec 6, 1855, transferring “Elijah Jefferson” for the considerationo f $1350; the other 2pp, New Orleans, Nov 3, 1848, selling three young men for the price of $2420. Both in very good condition, and becoming rare.
