Genl.” on verso of a narrow oblong 4to document, n.p., 9/21/1841 stating “Due Col. J. Snively Two thousand six hundre and four 16/100 dollars Texas...notes...” signed by acting treasurer James H. Raymond. Hole touching Raymond’s signature, otherwise good.

American composer and conductor, and musical inventor (1854-1932); known as the “March King” for his mastery in composing military music, including “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and “The Wedding March”. DS “John Philip Sousa,”1p, narrow oblong 8vo, NYC, 8/22/1930. A bank check drawn on Chase National, payable to the Port Washington Post in the amount of $2.50, no doubt for a subscription. Sousa and his family lived near Port Washington, on Long Island, in the village of Sands Point. Matted with a photograph under glass in wooden frame , overall size 12.1” x 10.15”.

Steinmetz notes that the check is for “Athletics.”Endorsed on verso. Perforation cancellations far from signature. Age-toned, otherwise fine.

TLS, June 8, 1959, Ridgefield, CT to Lawrence Spivak, meet the press,“I greatly appreciate the compliment you are paying me in asking me to appear on your outstandingly fine program. In accepting I..must tell you that our plan calls for only two weeks in Moscow..most..studying the reactions of the rank-and-file Russian people at the exhibition of THE FAMILY OF MAN..”Signed in full. A very fine and important letter by the creator of the exhibition, one of the most important of the last half century. The other letters are copies about arrangements for the interview. Very good.
