English-born US artist (1808-97); pioneered use of the mezzotint. ADS three times“John Sartain,”1p, narrow oblong 8vo, Philadelphia, 8/17/1875. A check drawn on the Pa. Academy of the Fine Arts, signed in body as payable to Sartain “for Henry Sartain,” his printer son, at close as secretary of the Academy, and on verso as endorsement. Pen cancelled in margin, thus nearly pristine. Fine.

In each, she writes about photographic images of herself and how these should be prepared. Toned, with minor edge wear, but overall in very good condition. With envelope for first letter.
