1 BELL “TELEPHONE ALMANAC” 1931 ($5-Up)
“Telephone Almanac, 1931.”Small 4to, green paper, “Printed for Bell System Telephone Subscribers by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company.” Very good.
2 COLONIAL WARRANTS - SC [2] ($100-Up)
Pair of ADS “Jno. Lining,”also S“Wright,”each 1p, oblong 4to, and folio, “Charlestown,”SC, 4/5 and 7/5, 1748. The first is a warrant to seize “William Buchanan of Granville County...so that you have his body before our Justices at Charles Town on the first Tuesday in July next to make satisfaction to James Shirving for one hundred thirty three pounds fourteen shillings & nine pence...”The second regards debts on an estate. Both with wax and paper seals. Each toned, the first with a dampstain across top half; each also with edge and fold wear, and glassine tape repairs on verso, very good overall.
3 COLORADO: RIGHTS AND PROPERTY OF WOMEN ($10-Up)
An abstract of state laws, “affecting the Rights and Property of Women and Children”presented by the Reform Department of the Woman’s Club of Denver revised by Adeline Harrington, shortly before she died. Front cover missing, back cover loose and poor condition. No date, apparently early 20th century.
4 CUNARD WHITE STAR MENU: MV BRITANNIC ($10-Up)
Small 4to dinner Menu, Aug 15, 1935, with great dishes: Mont-Dore Potatoes, Creme Carmen, Pouding Richelieu, Bombe Alhambra, and a pirate theme on cover. Very good.
5 EASTHAMPTON, LONG ISLAND: AMAGANSETT WOODS [8] ($200-Up)
Land deed, ADS, folio, dated Jan 18, 1722-23, for 6 acres of land in the woods, bound by property owned by by John Wheller, Lewis Conkling, and Samuel Mulford and signed “Jeremiah Conkling,” with his wax seal. A lovely example; with seven more deeds, similar, dates 1716, 1721[2], 1747[2], 1763, 1800. A very fine lot for local history buffs.
6 ENGINEERING NEWS AND AMERICAN RAILWAY JOURNAL 1890 [3] ($30-Up)
Three issues, June 7, July 5, Dec 18, 1890, interesting and in very good condition.
7 ESQUIRE MAGAZINE: CENSORSHIP ($25-Up)
A long, Typed Manuscript, 33 pages, with many corrections, about the investigations and hearings to which the Esquire people were called when, in 1943, the Post Office decided to explore the use of “second class mailing privileges.” There is wonderful detail about interviews, statements by Arnold Gingrich, editor of Esquire at the time, and especially David A. Smart, the guiding personality of the famous magazine. A treasure for those interested!
