News-Antique.com - Jun 28,2007 - Pearl Brewery lives again! San Antonio is trying to establish itself as a culinary center, currently has become a financial center, a medical center, and a U.S Military Center. Look at Pearl Beer collectibles and memorabilia at Moran Antiques: glasses, trays, ashtrays, cigarette lighters Pearl was very much a part of San Antonio history from the 1880's to 2001, the water from artesian well sources and numerous springs in the San Antonio river basin provided brewers just what was needed. Early San Antonio entrepreneurs quickly realized the value of the water source and grabbed the opportunity to produce beer, especially German brewmeisters. The other ingredients, grain, malt, hops, came in first by wagon, later by rail as San Antonio became a railway hub. Now the near downtown 22-acre site is being developed for various businesses, social event locations, the Culinary Inst. of America and the Center for Foods of the Americas. All of this along the San Antonio River, where long-range plans are in place to extend the well-known River Walk from downtown on north to Pearl Brewery. The much-loved river barges now on the downtown River Walk could also come on the San Antonio River to the Pearl Brewery site.
