News-Antique.com - Jun 12,2007 - CHARITY AUCTION WITH A CHOCOLATE CENTER
TO BE HELD JUNE 25th BY STAMFORD AUCTION
(Stamford, Conn.) - A “Chocolate for Charity” auction preview to benefit Children's Aid, Inc., of Darien will be held Monday, June 25, by Stamford Auction at 24 Harbor View Ave. Attendees will be able to sample an assortment of fine chocolates provided by the Schakolad Chocolate Factory of Stamford, sip wine and browse an astounding single-owner collection of chocolate-related items.
The actual auction will be held the following evening, June 26, at 6 pm, and feature advertising posters and signs; tins; memorabilia; banks and dispensers; moulds; collector cards and albums; crates, boxes and containers; related ephemera; and more – all of it pertaining to chocolate. Admission to the June 25 preview is $20, with 100% of the money going to benefit Children's Aid, Inc.
Originally, the chocolate collection was to be incorporated into Stamford Auction's June 5 sale. But when the firm had the opportunity to couple a whimsical chocolate theme with the chance to benefit a worthwhile cause, it embraced a change in plans. “It's not every day you can hold a sale and help make a difference in a child's life at the same time,” said Gary Braswell of Stamford Auction.
The items will be available for viewing on back-to-back preview days, June 23-24, from 11 am to 5 pm. The June 25 auction preview will begin at 11 am and continue to around 9 pm. Additional previewing will continue the following day, June 26, from 11 am to the start of sale, at 6 pm. The June 25 preview will also feature a silent auction component, in which bidders will vie for several items.
Children's Aid, Inc., with nearly 200 members, is an auxiliary of the Family and Children's Agency, based in Norwalk. It has served the Darien community for over 60 years. The purpose of the organization is to raise funds for FCA, publicize its work and assist local agencies or organizations that serve families and children. Darien, Norwalk and Stamford are all located in lower Fairfield County.
Children's Aid, Inc., holds three major fundraising events each year. There is usually a social event in the fall, planned primarily for members and their guests. In the spring, the group hosts a tag sale, which raises money and provides low-cost clothing and household furnishings to members of the public. New members are always welcome. The auction will be made sweeter by the offerings donated by the Schakolad Chocolate Factory, the internationally acclaimed brand for fresh, handmade, European-style chocolates, located at 172 Bedford Street in Stamford. The name is a combination of “Schaked” (after Baruch Schaked, who co-founded the firm and whose studies and travels made him a master chocolatier ) and “Chocolate.”
Schakolad Chocolate Factory is the perfect partner for an auction centered around chocolate collectibles. The name is associated with three generations of chocolate making, earning numerous voter preference awards in the process.
