Amazing Run of DC War Comics Highlights Keith Marlow Collection The tough-to-find early appearances of classic characters like Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, and the Haunted Tank are the highlight of the Keith Marlow Collection being offered by Heritage Auction Galleries.
News-Antique.com - Jun 07,2007 - DALLAS, TEXAS: The tough-to-find early appearances of classic characters like Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, and the Haunted Tank are the highlight of the Keith Marlow Collection being offered by Heritage Auction Galleries.
“The 1950s issues of DC war comics are much more difficult to find than other comics from the same era, with the sought-after first appearances of the major characters all but nonexistent in high grade” said Lon Allen, Director of Comic Sales for Heritage. “Mr. Marlow’s collection is easily the best DC war run we’ve ever seen, and all the key issues you could ask for are here, like the first appearance of Sgt. Rock in Our Army of War #83 and the debut of the Haunted Tank in G. I. Combat #87.”
Marlow didn’t begin collecting in earnest until 1996, but he was able to amass some 3,500 choice issues, quite an accomplishment considering the demands of his job as Chief Financial Officer of a prominent international law firm.
Marlow’s collecting interests weren’t limited to DC war – he also put together an outstanding run of TV and movie-related comics, with many of his Four Color issues standing as the finest copies yet certified. Additionally, the collection includes excellent copies of Silver and Bronze Age keys like Brave and the Bold #28, X-Men #1, and Giant-Size X-Men #1, and high-grade gems like a stunning copy of Flash #167, certified NM/MT 9.8 with white pages by CGC.
The first lots from the Keith Marlow Collection will be sold in the June 10-17 Sunday Internet Comics Auction at HA.com, while the most notable issues will be featured in the August 2-4 Signature Auction held at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum in Baltimore, MD.
All lots from The Keith Marlow Collection will be sold without reserves.
Heritage will accept consignments for this auction through June 19, 2007.
