A primer for the Generalist and Fine Arts Appraiser and a refresher for the Decorative Arts Specialist, examining silver flatware and holloware, English & American, likely to be found in appraising a household or an estate. Practical issues of identification, documentation and valuation in the field will be discussed. A visit of S. J. Shrubsole shop with James McConnaughy and to the Lauren Stanley collection with Stanley Szaro will provide a hands on opportunity to encounter high quality wares and also open a conversation on connoisseurship and the silver collector or dealer in contract to the common and typical. This intensive two-day workshop led by silver expert Elizabeth Betsy Buhler, will take place on Thursday afternoon, May 17, and on Friday (full day), May 18.
