well-known 72-type number classification system for those who wished to limit the scale of their collections. The Western Reserve Historical Society Collection illustrates how old time collectors of the early 20th century focused on getting as many of the Bradbeer numbers as possible including all of the major types, the rare varieties and plen sets of all of the common varieties that could possibly be found. Additionally, as this set has been at the Western Reserve Historical Society for decades, it has largely escaped the more modern trend to repair and restore notes, making it a truly and special, original collection.
The Western Reserve Historical Society Collection offers a complete set of Montgomery issued notes, all Very Fine up through About Uncirculated, and includes an extremely rare T-2 PF-1 Jones-Elmore signature combination of which there are 5 known. The T-35 Indian Princess note is graded Fine, plus, and is completely original, offering a rare opportunity to acquire a high end Indian Princess with an excellent provenance. Other rare types include high-grade T-10 notes and original T-11 notes, a nice T-15, a nice T-19, and an original T-27. A significant number of the old time rare varieties are included as well. There are two very rare T-7 B plate examples. The finest known T-8 PF-5, of which only three have been seen and recorded over the past century, is in this collection. Several extremely rare T-16 notes are present. The finest known inverted XX T-18 PF-5 is included. There are many rare to extremely rare T-26 notes, and several plen errors, the most spectacular of which are the T-30 with plate numbers 5 – 1, and the T-43 with plate numbers 1 – 10. There are many important T-33 varieties, many rare J. Whatman watermarks, and other important rarities. Additionally, major new discoveries include a T-26 J. Whatman watermark variety that is unlisted in Fricke, a unique T-50 inverted back, and a unique major double error variety – the T-52 C-G plen error with inverted back! These new discoveries will be assigned new PF numbers and will be recorded in the upcoming Collecting Confederate Paper Money by Pierre Fricke along with the newly identified condition census rarities in this great collection. Beyond these important notes lie many plen sets, more common varieties and types for beginning collectors and dealer lots. This sale offers a great opportunity to add value to any collection, from the most basic to the most advanced. It should not be missed.
