News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - The world lost a truly inspirational and creative person on Monday night when Don Winton passed away. His wife, Norma, reports that although Don has been suffering from heart problems over the past months and was tiring easily, he was still busy working until the very end.
Don Winton is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Kristi and son Craig. A memorial service is being planned, date and location will be announced.
Don Winton was a person who touched many people's lives. It didn't matter if you were a famous personality or "just a collector", everyone was treated to his big smile and engaging personality. He loved to talk to everyone and will be missed by people in all walks of life.
Although most people will associate Don with Twin Winton Pottery, that's only the tip of the iceberg. His work was as diverse as creating numerous commissions for Brush Pottery, a Snoopy telephone, Disney (even before Disneyland) to sculpting the John Wooden Trophy, an Emmy award and the Academy of Country Music Award.
His work is in two Presidential libraries, the USC Athletic Department and is listed at the Smithsonian. But the piece that probably brought him the most joy was his sculpting of the 1947 Rose Bowl queen -- it was of Norma, who later became his wife.
