Tradewinds' 2006 Holiday Auction On December 15, 2006, Tradewinds Antiques, America's Premier Cane Auction House, conducted its 8th annual Holiday Online Auction. The event featured 16 quality lots and was highly successful.
News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - Highlights of the sale included a wonderful ca 1705 English ivory and silver pomander cane that achieved $7,000.00. A great whale ivory fist on whalebone fetched $5,600.00 as did a superb and very early ca 1690 English ivory and silver pique example. Fine carved ivories did very well with a leather-back sea turtle making $3,584.00, a bust of Henry VIII getting $2,240.00, and a scene featuring Dionysus at $1904.00, as the category leaders. In the decorative cane genre, a beautiful Tiffany silver fetched $2,912.00, a stunning bloodstone with enamel and silver made $2,464.00, and a lovely Spanish two-color gold damascene ball and stem brought $2,240.00. A wonderful Meissen porcelain veiled lady came in at $3,584.00 while the leader in the gadget cane category was a one-piece wood flick-stick defensive cane curio that made $1,288.00. Of the sixteen canes offerred, all but two sold and the two-day event that achieved 102 bids and grossed $42,392.00, was the second highest result for Tradewinds' Online Holiday Sales. All prices quoted included a 12% buyer's premium.
