News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - Collecting TV Guides has become quite popular with many collectors of Paper and Ephemera according to Bev Owens, owner of a new shop located at TIAS.com
The first National issue of TV Guide was published on April 3, 1953. The cover had a photo of Lucy and Desi's newborn son along with an inset of Lucille Ball. That issue books for $1950.00. Any cover with Lucy commands a higher price than most other issues of TV Guide.
The celebrity on the cover dictates the value of most of the magazines. The more popular the star, the higher the value. Many collectors concentrate on a particular person or character; although there are some who are tying to collect every issue, reports Mrs. Owens. "It just brings back so many wonderful memories when you see an old issue of this icon that has been in our homes since 1953 These Guides are truly a glimpse of our lives on any given week or day'
Bev reports that there is a new book out for people who have an interest in collecting TV Guides. 'TV Guide Celebrating An Icon'. The book has photos of every TV Guide published up to October 2005 along with prices.
When asked what her favorite item in her inventory is at this moment, she stated that it was probably the September 16, 1978 issue with the original cast of 'Battlestar Galactica' illustrated on the cover. "I never missed that program and I'm now hooked on the new series so that is probably my favorite. I do love the covers illustrated by Al Hirschfeld, too."
Bev Owens has dealt in paper and ephemera since 1997 with her specialty being in advertising items. Her business is appropriately named The Paper Trail. She hopes you will stop by and visit often, as she plans to add new inventory each day.
