ANTIQUES AT ELM BANK ESTATE
July 29-30, 2006
Boston, MA (July 25, 2006) – For almost 20 years, the doors of the Cheney-Baltzell Manor House located on the grounds of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society at the Elm Bank Reservation have been locked. At the end of July, the doors will open wide to showcase some of the most sought after antiques during the inaugural antiques show at Elm Bank Estate taking place July 29-30, 2006.
In 1874, the Manor House was purchased by Benjamin Pierce Cheney, a former stagecoach driver who helped found the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. After Mr. Cheney passed away, the estate was passed down to his daughter who replaced the Victorian style property with a 43-room brick mansion. These days, the mansion is a bit worn down but is still structurally sound and has some very unique features including a secret door leading to a staircase complete with false books on the wall. The Manor House also features a beautiful garden with statues of Ceres, Flora, and Pomona, the Roman goddesses of grain, flowers, and fruit.
Antiques at Elm Bank Estate will feature over 175 quality dealers displaying hundreds of sought after items at Greater Boston’s newest and most magnificent outdoor summer antiques show. Antiquities from the 18th to the early 20th Century will be available including Federalist and Victorian furniture, European and Asian ceramics, china, sterling silver, art, estate jewelry, antique toys and much more. Everyone from the casual collector to the experienced investor will be able to find that precious treasure they have been searching for.
Admission to Antiques at Elm Bank Estate is $8 per person. Hours are Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in Wellesley, MA.
