Rie Cramer was born in 1887 in Indonesia and returned to Holland when she was nine years old. She died in 1977 at the age of 90.
She was a successful illustrator for children's literature, and also did advertising design, fashion illustration and the writing of plays, novels and poems. Over 200 postcard designs have been reproduced from her book illustrations.
