SEVERAL FINE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ESTATES COME TO THE BLOCK IN JULY AT JOHN MORAN’S FINE ANTIQUES AND ESTATES AUCTION
Pasadena, CA – On July 11th, 2006, John Moran Auctioneers will offer the contents of several fine Southern California estates at their Fine Antiques and Estates auction. Coming to the block will be over 250 lots of exceptionally fine antique and period furniture, art, sterling, jewelry and a special collection of ceramic jardinieres and stands. Bidding for this auction is available live, by absentee and phone and via the Internet through eBay Live auctions/Live Auctioneers.
Headlining the furniture to be offered will be a beautiful Victorian painted satinwood slant-front bureau which is estimated to bring $7,000 - $9,000. The fall front of this piece is decorated with an equestrian portait of “Parasol,” signed Whessell.
Among the art to be offered will be “Cardinal in an Interior” by C. Francolini (Italian) estimated at $8,000 - $12,000 and a bronze figure of a nymph entitled “Fee et la source,” by Mauthurin Moreau (France 1822 – 1912) is signed on the base and estimated at $4,000 - $6,000.
Fine sterling will be strong at this sale represented by a seven-piece 20th century Gorham Sterling Maintenon tea and coffee service. The set is marked Gorham/Sterling/A10205/1/Mainteno and is estimated to bring $6,000 - $9,000. Exceptional jewelry and accessories will also take center stage exampled by a Russian silver and cloisonné cigarette case which is estimated at $2,500 - $3,500 and a rose gold and diamond floral brooch in stylized flower form will come to the block carrying the same estimate.
Not usually seen at auction will be an impressive collection of late 19th and early 20th century Austrian, English and French Art Nouveau ceramic jardinieres and stands. Among the highlights in this collection will be a pair of 20th century Royal Doulton jardinieres stands (estimate $1,800 – $2,200) and a Delphin Massier flamingo jardinière and stand. This late 19th to early 20th century set is signed “Delphin Massier (1836-1907)Vallris (A M) and is glazed in pinks, greens and purples (estimate $1,500 - $2,500). A pair of late 19th century Lefcoware Art Nouveau terracotta jardinières on stands is marked “Lefcoware/No.14 x” and comes to the block with an estimate of $2,000 – $4,000. A pair of early 20th century Minton turquoise glazed jardinières marked “Mintons/England/A or M/5//30113” are done in the Chinese style and carry an estimate of $2,500 - $3,500.
