Heritage Basket Studio & Chair Caning Annouces Opening of New Studio Heirtage Basket Studio & Chair Caning opens larger studio
All forms of seat weaving offered
News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - Bridgewater, VA – 3/27/06—Mitchell Webster owner of Heritage Basket Studio
& Chair Caning announced today that he has expanded is professional basketry business to include all the major forms of seat weaving.
Mr. Webster, a professional basket weaver, has been weaving premium quality baskets for the past 15 years, his works can be found in several Virginia Fine Art and Fine Craft Galleries, as well as the Artisans Center of Virginia in Waynesboro, VA. He specializes in traditional basket styles such as ribbed egg baskets, market, Shaker styles. Contemporary Fibonacci Zigzag and Spiral Twills.
Five years ago Mr. Webster says so many customers were requesting seat weaving for chairs that he took on chairs, and started with splint bottoms, then moved on to hand caning and rush. Now there are so many requests for re-seating chairs that he has moved into a larger studio, space limitations were keeping his business from growing like he wanted it too. The new studio offers plenty of room for all the forms of seat weaving in addition to basketry.
In this day of recycling Mitchell says it is a shame there are so many chairs hanging in attics, barns and basements that could be made usable once again with a new seat. In addition knowing that quality furniture made 50 – 100+ years ago is once again a viable part of the household. Mr. Webster says that it is amazing that he has received chairs from many states, VA, NC, SC, KY, W.VA, MD, DC due in part largely to his advertisement on www.wickerwoman.com
Cathryn Peters owner of wicker Woman, has a wonderful and informative site that explains many of the styles of seat weaving.
Heritage Basket Studio & Chair Caning offers the following styles of seat weaving. Hand Caning, Pressed Caning, Rush-work, Splint, Porch Cane, Danish Cord, Shaker Tape and Wicker Repair. Though wicker repair was the most recent addition, much of wickerwork follows traditional basketry principals.
Though in business for over 15 years, Mr. Webster says he is still located in a residential area and there for considered a home based business, calling or emailing in advance is the best way to reach him. A website is in the making and should be operational by August of this year. The studio is located in behind apartment.
