News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - The legendary Motion Picture Arts Gallery announces that it has recently moved its headquarters from its original Manhattan location to 90 Oak Street in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The new gallery is now conveniently located only fifteen minutes from the Lincoln Tunnel and twenty minutes from Newark. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 11 am to 5 pm, or by appointment. Call (201) 635-1444 or visit www.mpagallery.com for more information.
For over twenty years the Motion Picture Arts Gallery has been the premier movie poster gallery in the New York area. It operates on the belief that motion picture art – especially film and movie posters – is timeless and enduring. The Motion Picture Arts Gallery’s collection spans the entire 100 years of cinema with a particular focus in vintage and Film Noir posters. "Our new location has a spacious exhibition space that allows us to display more of our inventory of 20,000 original movie posters and lobby cards at one time," says Joe Burtis, the Director of Client Services.
Ira M. Resnick founded the Motion Picture Arts Gallery in December, 1982. His goal was to promote movie art, as well as build a great collection of film ephemera. Resnick’s passion for movie posters began at the prestigious New
York University Film School, which he graduated from in 1971, and continued through his ten year career as a freelance photographer. Currently, he serves as Director of the gallery and is a member of the board of directors of the Film Society of Lincoln Center. He also supports the arts through the Ira M. Resnick Foundation.
In 1983 Resnick met Joe Burtis at a poster and postcard show. Soon after, they began to do business together, and in 1994 Joe joined the gallery as the Director of Client Services. Today, Joe is responsible for all appraisals, exhibitions, and acquisitions at the Motion Picture Arts Gallery.
The Internet has dramatically changed the world of poster collecting. To take advantage of this marketplace Motion Picture Arts Gallery offers their entire inventory online at www.mpgallery.com. "Our business was increasingly moving to the Internet over the years, and our new location offers us the luxury of much more space while still being close to our customers in New York City," comments Joe. The collection has an easy to use search engine that allows you to search for a poster by title, director, actor, genre, date, size, and country. "We have the best selection of pre-1950 movie posters available anywhere," states Joe. "We also believe that the overall quality of our inventory is unsurpassed and that you are more likely to find a really great poster on our site than anywhere else." The Motion Picture Arts Gallery website also features a special monthly selection from their vast inventory, as well as all new acquisitions.
