EXTRAORDINARY JAPANESE SINGLE-OWNER COLLECTION OF LALIQUE TO BE OFFERED AT CHRISTIE’S IN NEW YORK Highly Important Lalique from the Collection of Tsuyoshi Kajikawa February 10, 2006
News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - New York – Christie’s International 20th Century Decorative Art & Design Department is delighted to announce the sale of Highly Important Lalique from the Collection of Tsuyoshi Kajikawa, to take place on February 10, 2006. One of the most impressive private collections of Lalique to ever appear at auction – and the most significant to appear in more than a decade - the sale will offer Lalique enthusiasts across the world a wonderful opportunity to further their own collections.
Featuring 120 lots, the auction is expected to realize in excess of $1.5 million – with estimates ranging from $300-300,000 – and will offer works that have rarely, if ever, been available. The Collection includes the entire range of René Lalique’s production, including unique early cire perdue pieces, rare applied glass vases, car mascots, perfume bottles, lamps, jewelery, tableware, inkwells, clocks and statuettes.
Mr Kajikawa, an art dealer from Kyoto, first encountered the works of René Lalique in 1984 while in a London antique shop. Captivated by the sculptural nature of the works, he soon began to collect profusely, both at auction and with dealers in the Europe and the U.S. He often acquired three or four different examples of the various molded editions, and after twenty years has amassed a remarkable collection, both in terms of quality and depth.
Highlights include ‘Branches de Laiteron’, a 1914 cire perdue vase (estimated: $220,000-280,000) and ‘Grenouilles et Nénuphars’, a 1912 glass vase (estimate: $300,000-400,000).
