Bonnie & Clyde’s Treasure Trove antiques in Pierceton, Indiana is featuring antique and vintage clothing in their online catalog at http://www.bctreasurtrove.com this month.
There, shoppers will find the latest additions to the shop's vintage and antique clothing and accessories inventory, both online and in their brick and mortar shop at 105 N. First Street (S.R. 13) in Pierceton, Indiana.
While the shop carries a general line of fine quality antiques, emphasizing furniture, lighting, art, primitives, pottery, glassware, and china the owners specialize in collectible antique clothing. Current inventory includes at least one item from each decade from 1840 through 1960. There is also a delightful variety of bonnets and hats for display and for wear. The shop also carries conservation and preservation materials for textiles.
In general, antique clothing is considered “for display” and vintage clothing is considered “wearable”. Depending on the condition of an item, most items from approximately 1930 to 1960 (current) are considered wearable, although sizing from earlier decades is quite different from today’s sizes. Not only are people today larger, but the actual measurements for a size are quite different. (One source states that the average woman’s size in 1950 was size 8, while today’s average woman wears a size 14.) Another example is the measurements given on a 1952 sewing pattern: Size 14 Dress – Bust 32”, Waist 26 ½”, Hip 35”. Measurements for a Size 14 taken from a current sewing pattern: Bust 36”, Waist 28”, Hip 38”. (Please remember that sewing pattern sizes are different from off-the-rack sizes, even today.)
Bonnie & Clyde's Treasure Trove is located just south of U.S. 30 on Indiana 13 (First Street) in downtown Pierceton, Indiana.
