Alexander Barter, Head of the Watch Department in Geneva commented: “we are very pleased with the results of today’s sale which totalled CHF2,974,841 ($2,256,952) against a pre-sale estimate of CHF2,574,200. The demand for pieces by well-known watchmakers remains strong and the market for modern wristwatches continues to do well. For example, lot 88 a set of four wristwatches by Patek Philippe fetched CHF344,800 (261,593 USD) far exceeding the pre-sale estimate of CHF 230,000. The global reach of Sotheby’s was illustrated by the amount of international participation in the auction.”
