Hurricanes and Collectibles - A Wake-Up Call The recent hurricanes point out the real need for having special insurance coverage in you are a collector.
News-Antique.com - Nov 30,-0001 - The National Association of Collectors' office in Gaithersburg, Maryland reports receiving a number of heart-breaking phone calls over the past month from people in Mississippi and Louisiana who totally lost their homes including sizeable collections. Other than homeowners' insurance, none of them had special collector insurance policies, although most realized that they should have had a special policy but just "never got around to it."
Rick Moses, NAC, says "We are trying to help these people find appraisers and possibly get some partial payment from their home owners' policy. We have contacted the leadership of over 1,000 collecting clubs and some of these are offering to help with appraisals in the collecting areas their clubs serve."
Moses says, "We have stressed this before, and we're going to keep hitting it. All collectors should have a special collectors insurance policy that goes beyond their home owners policy - and these policies are not expensive.
"There are a number of special policies you can check out, however we feel the Collector Insurance Program provided through Association Insurance Administrators, which NAC offers, is one of the best and it is the most reasonable. Go to: http://insurance.collectors.org and check it out.
