The Appraisal of Fine Art specialty course, offered by the International Society of Appraisers October 23-28, 2006, in San Antonio, TX, provides a broad spectrum of information about major categories of fine art.
Graduates of this course will know how to look at a work of art properly, how to identify and research fine art works, how to properly describe different art works, and how to correctly employ the vocabulary common to the field.
The course does not teach the basics of appraisal theory and practice, but relates these concepts to the field of fine art.
Major sections of the course cover painting, sculpture, and works on paper. Other sections deal with Japanese prints, Russian icons, animation art, photography, and Spanish Colonial art. Conservation, identification, fine art research, and doing market research on line are also addressed. Museum field tours and hands on research practice are included.
Non-members are welcome in the course. There is a pre-course assignment that must be completed by all students, so early registration is recommended. Students who successfully complete this course receive continuing education units from the University of Maryland University College.
